5 Vegas Gold

5 Vegas is a retailer brand, which means no marketing budget and a price that reflects it. The Gold is the mild-to-medium one: an Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper that reads more like a Connecticut, over a Nicaraguan-Honduran core, with cedar, cream and a light nuttiness. It is smooth, it burns evenly, and it is unremarkable in the best sense — there is nothing wrong with it. Bundles run $3 to $4 a stick and the cigar is frequently on deep sale. The Classic is the medium-bodied sibling and the better cigar if you want flavor; the Gold is the one for mornings and for people who are still working out what they like. Construction is more consistent than it has any right to be.

A box for the golf bag or the boat, when the cigar is company rather than the point.
