La Gloria Cubana

The original American boutique cigar, now a General Cigar brand, still made to Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's full-flavored Dominican blend.

Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's Miami-rolled La Gloria Cubana was the cigar of the nineties boom, hard to find and heavier than the mild Dominicans of the day. General Cigar bought it in 1999 and moved production to the Dominican Republic; the Sumatra-wrapped blend survived the move. The Serie R, with its big ring gauges, was ahead of its time and still sells. Perez-Carrillo went on to found E.P. Carrillo.
